Volunteers Into School Sport Scheme
We are seeking voluntary support from parents, carers and support staff to help run after school sporting activities at local primary schools. The first part of the training will be facilitated by the Lincolnshire School Improvement Service (CfBT) and will include a training module on behaviour management, health & safety and child protection linked to the Training Development Agency (TDA) induction programme. This module is compulsory and will run on Wednesday 23rd March 2011 at Spalding High School, 6.00pm to 9.00pm. The second part of the training will be facilitated by the Lincolnshire South East School Sport Partnership and candidates will be able to choose from a range of sport specific modules organised on the week commencing Monday 28th March 2011.
If you are able to commit to running an after school sports club at your local primary school please complete the attached form as soon as possible. Candidates who attend the training course will receive a certificate of attendance from the Lincolnshire School Improvement Service and the Lincolnshire South East School Sport Partnership. All volunteers will be required to undertake an enhanced criminal records bureau check which will be paid for by the school.
Why is PE and sport important for our children?
Taking part in PE and sport has been proven to have significant benefits for young people. A growing evidence base demonstrates the impact that high quality PE and sport has in improving educational standards. It helps young people become more active and healthy and can play a central role in developing young people’s confidence and self-esteem, helping develop team working and wider social and personal skills.
The Government recently announced its ambition for all school children to receive 3 hours of physical education and sport each week at school (2 hours in the curriculum and 1 hour beyond the curriculum). If this is to become a reality schools will need to engage the support of adults other than teachers both within and beyond school. Hopefully this training course is the first step in supporting this ambition and I would welcome your support with this initiative.
